Lustrum conference ‘Book or Booze’

The local chamber of student associations (PKvV) and the Leiden Debating Union have joined forces in organising an impressive Lustrum conference and debate for Leiden’s students and (future) policy-makers.  Both supporters and opponents will debate the proposition affirming the relevance of classic Dutch student associations in the increasingly international academic community and the many changes this community is undergoing.

These experienced debate organisers will be sure to spark off some fireworks!

Cleveringa meetings on the Lustrum theme of Reason and Emotion

Every year the Leiden University Fund organises the so-called Cleveringa meetings on or around November 26. These meetings commemorate the legacy of Professor Cleveringa, exemplary advocate of praesidium libertatis. During WWII he spoke out against the dismissal of his Jewish colleague Professor E.M. Meijers. This event, that played such an important part in the history of the University, is remembered every year. Both in the Netherlands and in foreign countries throughout the world, Leiden’s scholars deliver lectures on the theme of freedom. In 2010 there will be lectures at 38 locations around the world!
